One of my best friends in elementary school qualified for school lunches during the school year, and I remember her eating a lot of macaroni and cheese in the summer. Even though mac 'n' cheese is pretty good, it isn't the most nutritious of foods out there. Share Our Strength's program to fight hunger in the US only started in 2004, so she wouldn't have been able to benefit from this as a child of the nineties. Today, I'm glad that there are children out there that can, finally.
I'm going to participate in the DineOut program to support the cause while I'm in Chicago this fall. Check out the campaign here!
