TimeOut Amsterdam

TimeOut Amsterdam had rather abruptly replaced Amsterdam Weekly, the once-ubiquitous events reporter and cultural commentator, in 2008.  What started as a minor change in my information-gathering habits, at the beginning of the housing bubble crisis, turned out to be an annihilation of direct competition to TimeOut, the UK publication that prints in over 40 international locations.

My own copy of the TimeOut Shortlist Amsterdam 2008 attests to the reasons underlying the UK giant's success: the pages are worn, used ticket stubs from music concerts and art galleries are stuck in its binding, and the cover is blotched with stains from various beverages.  All of these vestiges of time show how a printed publication can endure habitual souvenir-collecting and drinking.  I bet that my MacBook wouldn't last more than five minutes after being drenched with a tall Heineken.
